Saad Dar

Financial Technology, Real Estate Investing, and Property Management, Accounting and Tax, Finance.

Professional Journey

Saad Dar is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and MBA graduate from Duke University with a diverse background in finance and technology. Starting at a top-tier accounting firm, he audited alternative investment funds, then transitioned to a hedge fund, focusing on financial statement preparation and technology implementation. Saad also successfully managed a private tax practice for personal and small business clients.

Saad later joined The Boston Consulting Group, where he led growth projects across Pharma, Retail, and Technology sectors. His passion for financial democratization took him to Plaid, a fintech company, where he worked with major banks and financial institutions to simplify finances.

Real Estate Ventures

Saad’s investment journey began five years ago with a focus on real estate. Specializing in 2-4 unit properties using the BRRRR strategy, he has grown his portfolio to 20 units, primarily long-term rentals, and recently ventured into short-term and mid-term rentals. This hands-on experience in property management, coupled with his background in finance, has deepened his expertise in real estate investment.

Why Baselane?

Joining Baselane was a strategic choice for Saad. As a passionate real estate investor and financial technologist, he was driven to create a comprehensive platform for real estate management. His vision: to develop a solution that simplifies every step of the property management process, from acquisition to operation.

Personal Interests

Based in Atlanta, Saad cherishes family time, soccer, and outdoor activities. An avid traveler, he looks forward to exploring new destinations with his family in the future. Connect with Saad on LinkedIn to follow his journey in finance and real estate.

Thorben Scheidegger

Financial Technology, Real Estate Investing, Short Term Rentals, Accounting, Finance

Experience

Prior to founding Baselane, Thorben was a Principal at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), where he led work with clients in Financial Services, Technology, Real Estate and Private Equity on topics ranging from growth strategy to new business builds and operations.

Thorben spent a significant portion of his early career working with large institutional real estate investors – focusing on growth strategy, portfolio allocation, and operational opportunities in the wake of the global financial crisis. Later, he primarily focused on working with Financial Services and Technology companies to build and launch new digital financial products, including a new online banking platform for small businesses.

Thorben holds a Master of Business Administration from University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business and a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from McGill University.

Why Baselane?

Thorben co-founded Baselane together with Mathias Korder and Jad Yaghi with the goal of building modern financial technology to help individual landlords and real estate investors grow their rental investment portfolios and to make real estate investing more accessible.

In addition to having worked in institutional real estate, Thorben is a landlord himself – focusing on short term rentals. Having experienced both the institutional and the independent side of real estate investing, Thorben saw the opportunity for Baselane while working together at BCG with Mathias. Unlike institutional investors, independent landlords are forced to rely on manual processes, limited data, and fragmented solutions. Baselane is here to change this and to level the playing field.

Personal

Thorben is originally Swiss/Canadian and moved to the US in 2013. He lives in New York and together with his wife is an avid outdoor enthusiast who enjoys hiking, skiing, and biking. You can connect with Thorben on LinkedIn.

Jad Yaghi

Proptech, Fintech, Finance, Software Development.

Professional Journey

Jad started his career building supply chain and logistics software. He has gone on to develop and lead the development of dozens of software products. Some of his largest projects were developing the latest generation of property tech software at Corelogic, leading teams of dozens of engineers and designers.

Jad now leads the engineering and delivery teams at Baselane. At Baselane, he combines his experience building products in property tech from zero and scaling them to millions of users, with his experience of building large and agile engineering teams. Jad has an undying passion for creating easy-to-use tools that solve hard problems.

Why Baselane?

Jad bought an investment property to rent it out but found the pains of being a landlord too much given the little time he had to manage both the property and finances himself. Unwilling to give the property over to an expensive property management firm, Jad realized there must be a far simpler way to manage the finances of a property without spending soulless hours with excel (and still getting the numbers wrong).

Personal

Jad lives in Toronto, where he enjoys cycling, hiking, and raising his two kids. He tries hard to create the time to scuba dive and work with shark conservation groups. You can connect with Jad on LinkedIn.
